SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
Sustainability is a development model that balances the needs of the present generation without compromising the possibilities of future generations
SANTIQUARANTA wine estate has always been committed to sustainable agriculture
The four pillars of our sustainability strategy are: Air, Water, Vineyard-Wine and Territory
AIR
We take measures to combat climate change
- We evaluate the emissions of climate changing gases from fertilization, fuels, energy consumption, waste treatment, associated with our production
- We reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with our vine production by adopting the following corrective measures: integrated viticulture techniques, low-carbon means of transport and low-impact cellar technologies, eco-sustainable packaging, and short supply chain programs
WATER
We promote responsible use of water resources in the vineyards and the winery itself
- We do not irrigate the vineyards; relying solely on rainwater
- We reduce the consumption of water used for treatments thanks to the use of low volume sprayers
- We reduce water consumption for winery’s activities (wine-making and bottling) by recovering rainwater
- We recover runoff water and reuse it to irrigate the green areas of the winery
VINEYARD - WINE
We employ the best agronomic management practices to protect biodiversity, the environment and soil fertility
- We adhere to integrated pest management programs to reduce the use of plant protection products
- We do not use glyphosate
- We reduce the use of organic and mineral fertilizers, mainly by using green manure techniques
- We avoid soil compaction and erosion phenomena by employing grassing techniques
- We reduce the use of sulphites
TERRITORY
We promote programs to protect sustainability and social responsibility
- We are leaders of a project to protect biodiversity having selected and replanted an autochthonous and extinct variety of Moscato di Baselice
- We are proactive members of associations promoting the local value-chain of the territory
Of the 17 United Nations sustainable development goals we support the following
